Tony Aguilar Signed Very Large Brass & Turquoise Cuff

Tony Aguilar 1919-2002

Tony Aguilar Signed Very Large Brass & Turquoise Cuff

Tony Aguilar (1919-2002) was born in Santo Domingo Pueblo. This was his personal cuff, acquired from his son after he died. He was one of the few accomplished artisans that worked with brass. Aguilar learned silversmithing from a Navajo jeweler while he attended the Santa Fe Indian School. He then entered Army during World War II and was stationed in Iran. Tony would return to the U.S. highly influenced by Middle Eastern jewelry designs. The resulting jewelry that Aguilar created post World War II was often bold, big and brass with intricate stampwork and large natural turquoise stones, shown in his work here. This cuff measures 3 3/4" thick. The inside circumference measures 5 3/4", the gap between terminals is 1 3/8", the exterior dimensions across are 3 1/4". In very good wearable condition. No damage or loss to brass, large and impressive stone (possibly Royston turquoise) is solidly set and intact - no chips or cracks. Crisp & clean! Normal overall wear commensurate with the age of the piece. Please study the photos as they are a part of the description. J186
