Hopi Indian Hemis Mana Katsina Kachina Doll 1930's
A vintage 1930's Hopi Hemis Mana Katsina/Kachina Cottonwood Doll. An older style "belly ache doll", so called because of the position of her hands in front of her stomach. Represents the Kachina Maiden who dances with the Hemis Kachina. Appears in the Niman or "Going Home" ceremony at the end of summer. Most omnipresent of all the women who appear with other Kachinas. In very good condition. Paint is all original with minimal signs of wear. Heavy rubbing to back and top of head as shown. Front of left foot is missing and a new piece was carved and attached. Measures 7 1/4" tall.
